Our Mission

40seconds was started in 2020 by our founder Ratneshwaran Maheswaran (Ratnesh), when he was a high school student. Our work at the beginning aimed at human rights broadly with writings and projects on issues. 40seconds has grown to be an organisation focused on Mental Health as its primary cause. However, we do work on human rights.

As a United Nations Partner and an International organisation, we are spread worldwide. Our volunteers come from over 19 countries, from different cultures and perspectives. Our community is united yet diverse and is majority youth.

If you didn’t know already, our organisation name “40seconds” is a WHO statistic that says, “Every 40 seconds someone loses their life to suicide”. Hence, this name shows the mission behind who we are; it reminds us and motivates us to curb suicides and break the stigma around mental health.

    40seconds strongly believes in inclusion and accepting everyone. We believe that having diverse people with different perspectives helps in creating a more inclusive world. A common purpose among diverse people.

    We believe in creating supportive content on Mental health and Human rights that speak the truth and are factual. This ensures that we convey only what is true and be a trusted source of well-being for people.

    We believe in the creativity of our diverse volunteers and clubs. Our content represents our creative members. We support our volunteers and give them creative freedom in the work they produce.
